Refuge Wilderness

'Refuge Wilderness'

10” X 20”
Oil on Linen
SOLD (Prints Available)
This highly detailed, dreamy oil on canvas depicts the underside of an overpass. The concrete pillars at first give the impression of secure shelter but also represent an impermanent infrastructure that is often unable to provide for the needs of the people it’s there to serve. Refuge Wilderness is the 11th in the Wilderness series exploring environment and aloneness through the lens of biblical wilderness. It depicts the underside of a concrete overpass; a solid infrastructure but at closer inspection gives the feeling of an incomplete and insufficient refuge for the flimsy tent sheltered within. Inspired by Psalm 71:3 “Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” -Psalm 71
